INSURANCE - CODE OF CONDUCT
Code of Conduct for Travel Insurance
Companies in Thailand
1. Requirements
with respect to the content of the policy
- Minimum coverage 30,000 Euro each for
medical expenses and repatriation
- Coverage in all Schengen Countries.
- Full refund in case of visa refusal upon
presentation of official proof of rejection from the Embassy.
- Insurance companies provide a hotline and
have to be able to send out a financial guarantee fax to a requesting
hospital within Schengen Countries within 24 hours after receiving a
respective request. (Many patients are not able to pay their hospital
bills, so reimbursement after presentation of the bills back to
Thailand is insufficient.)
2. Requirements with respect to sales
practices and marketing of the insurance policies
- The Insurance companies agree not to
place any advertising staff (hawkers) in front of the Embassy compounds
of any Schengen Embassy.
- The Insurance companies will only sell
travel insurance to individuals who appear in person, present a valid
picture ID and sign the insurance application form personally. The
Insurance companies will not allow the purchase of an insurance policy
by a representative of the insured person.
- The Insurance companies will not pay any
commission to imtermediaries hawkers who bring clients to the company's
office to purchase travel insurance in order not to further encourage
hawking in front of the Embassies.
- The Insurance companies will take all
necessary steps to ensure that thrie authorized sales agents will also
follow this Code of Conduct. The Insurance companies are fully
responsible their authorized agents.
- The Insurance companies will provide the
Schengen Embassies with a sample travel insurance policy highlighting
its security features and will immediately update the Schengen
Embassies in case of any changes undertaken in the format of the
policy.
3. Acceptance and breach of Code of
Conduct
- All Insurance companies which sign and
adhere to these guidelines may use the term "Aproved for Visa
application by all EU Schengen Embassies" to advertise their
product.
- Insurance companies which sign and adhere
to these guidelines will be included in the official list of travel
insurance companies suitable for Schengen visa application, which will
be handed out to visa applicants on request.
- Insurance companies which are in breach
of this Code of Conduct or whose sales agents are in breach of this
Code of Conduct will subsequently not be accepted at any Schengen
Embassy, even if the breach of guidelines only occured with respect to
one Embassy. Insurance companies are fully responsible for their
authorized agents.
