Travellers to Iceland must apply for a visa to Iceland at the Royal Danish Embassy.

Please also be informed that a Schengen visa does not give the holder the right to travel to Faroe Islands and Greenland, unless the visa is specifically endorsed to that effect.

Please note:

  • The issue of visas, when required, is discretionary and depends on examination of each individual case, including purpose of visit.
  • A visa is valid for maximum 3 months, but may be issued with a shorter validity, depending on your travel schedule.
  • If you plan to visit more than one Schengen State on your trip, you must apply for a visa at the Embassy of the country of your main destination.
  • You are required to apply for a Schengen visa in person during the Visa Section’s opening hours. The Royal Danish Embassy strongly recommends that you apply in good time before your planned visit, as some visa applications are sent to the Danish Immigration Service for consideration and therefore take a long time to process, - in some cases months. For up-dated information about the processing time at the Danish Immigration Service kindly see their website.
  • Normal processing time for a bona fide visa is 5 working days, for groups processing time by appointment. See the bullet above for processing time in DIS. Click here to see the processing time in peak season.
  • On 22 December 2003 the European Council decided that a travel medical insurance should be included as a supporting document for the granting of a uniform visa. In Denmark this decision enters into effect 7 June 2004 (Further information). Please be advised that proof of the insurance should also be documented when entering the Schengen area.

  • Bangladesh
  • Bhutan*
  • Cambodia
  • China (The People’s Republic of China) (incl. Hongkong and Macao)
  • India
  • Indonesia*

  • Papua New Guinea
  • Pakistan*
  • Philippines*

*Application from nationals from countries marked with an asterix must be sent to consultation within the Schengen member states. Please expect a processing time of minimum 14 days.
