VISIT TO OTHER RELATIVES/FRIENDS

General information regarding applications for visa (short stays of max. 90 days per 6 months)

Note that as of 1 January 2007 the new appointment system will be introduced. More information under "Read more".

  • All visa applications should be signed and submitted by the applicant personally.
  • All fields in the application form must be filled in correctly. If not, the application will be rejected.
  • The Embassy reserves the right to request additional documents and/or information when processing the application.
  • Non-Thai nationals must present a valid work/ residence permit from their country of residence with a re-entry permit valid at least 3 months beyond their return to their country of residence.
  • Processing time: As a general rule, applications to visit relatives, fiancées, parents or friends in Denmark are forwarded to the Danish Immigration Service for consideration. The processing time is generally between 1-3 months. For exact information about the present processing time, kindly check directly with the Danish Immigration Service website. See note at the bottom "For the Danish reference". The Embassy will inform the applicant directly about the Immigration Service’s decision.
  • When/if the visa has been granted, the applicant should inform the Embassy about his/her travel schedule. Please note that a return ticket must be shown to this Embassy when the applicant comes to pick up the visa. The Embassy, however, strongly advises the applicant NOT to buy the ticket before the visa has been granted.
  • Visa fees

The applicant should present the following documents when applying for a visa:

1. To visit boyfriend/girlfriend/friend/relative

  • 1 application form and 1 supplementary form duly filled in and signed by the applicant. Please complete the forms in capital letters using blue or black ink.
  • 1 new colour photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm, the face must be 70 to 80 % of the photo, NO dark background).
  • Passport, valid at least 3 months beyond the applicant’s return to Thailand
  • Invitation letter (Word-doc.) from the reference (i.e. friend, relative) in Denmark. If the reference pays for accomodation, meals etc., this should be stated in the invitation letter.
  • Documentation of the applicant's own financial means must be shown.
  • If applicable, a letter of employment from the applicant’s employer stating how long the applicant has been employed with the company, period of absence from work, and monthly salary.
  • If applicable, house registration paper to confirm the family relationship between the applicant and the reference in Denmark.

2. Child under 18 years of age to visit parent(s) living in Denmark

  • 1 application form and 1 supplementary form duly filled in and signed by the applicant. Please complete the forms in capital letters using blue or black ink.
  • 1 new colour photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm, the face must be 70 to 80 % of the photo, NO dark background).
  • Passport, valid at least 3 months beyond the applicant’s return to Thailand.
  • Invitation letter (Word-doc.) from the applicant’s mother/father in Denmark. If the reference pays for accomodation, meals etc., this should be stated in the invitation letter.
  • Documentation of the applicant's own financial means must be shown.  
  • Birth certificate
  • If the parents are divorced, the divorce certificate must be shown.
  • Documentation to prove that the parent living in Denmark has sole custody over the child.
  • In the event of name/surname change, documentation thereof.
  • Marriage certificate (parent and new spouse in Denmark)
  • Copy of passport and stay permit/alien number of the parent living in Denmark.

* A RETURN TICKET AND PROOF OF TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE SHOULD BE SHOWN TO THE EMBASSY WHEN PICKING UP THE VISA. THE EMBASSY STRONGLY ADVISES ALL APPLICANTS NOT TO BUY THEIR TICKET BEFORE THE EMBASSY HAS CONFIRMED THAT THEIR VISA WILL BE ISSUED.

** PLEASE NOTE THAT UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, THE EMBASSY SHALL ISSUE VISA TO PARENTS VISITING THEIR CHILDREN IN DENMARK, PROVIDED THE ABOVE-MENTIONED DOCUMENTION IS SATISFACTORY AND SUBMITTED TOGETHER WITH THE APPLICATION. HOWEVER, IF THE DOCUMENTATION IS LACKING, OR IF THE APPLICANT DOES NOT WISH TO SUBMIT ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, THE APPLICATION WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE DANISH IMMIGRATION FOR CONSIDERATION.

Note for the Danish reference:
If you submit the application together with the applicant and you are staying in Thailand while the case is being processed by the Danish Immigration Service (DIS), please make sure that your mail in Denmark is checked as DIS might contact you for further information. Normally, DIS will give you 2 weeks to answer their questions.
