Provisional Stay (MVV)

If your stay for the Netherlands will be longer than 3 months, a MVV needs to be applied for.

As from 1 July 2005 there will be new fees and a new procedure for the payment for MVV applications.

The MVV fees as from 1 July 2005:

to stay with a family member or a relative 

€ 830  

to enter employment or work as a self-employed person

to study

to stay as an au pair or as part of an exchange programme

to stay as an adopted or foster child

to visit family/relatives

Procedure as from 1 July 2005:

You can apply for a MVV at the Netherlands Embassy in Bangkok. The fees have to be paid in the Netherlands.

After submitting the MVV application the applicant receives a confirmation of the application. In the confirmation letter the following will be mentioned: the reference number of the application, the fees to be paid and the information of the Dutch bank account of the Dutch Immigration Service (IND).

The fees have to be paid into the Dutch bank account within three weeks after the date of application. Only after the full payment of the MVV fees has been received the MVV application will be processed.

Provisional Stay (MVV) in the Netherlands

If your stay for the Netherlands will be longer than 3 months, a MVV needs to be applied for. The application can be made in person at the Netherlands Embassy or can be initiated in the Netherlands via a sponsor. Both procedures are described on the website of the Ministry of Justice, Immigration and Naturalisation Department, in the Netherlands: www. immigratiedienst.nl

There are several purposes of stay. Please find below three of the main purposes and the documents you need to submit for those purposes (application procedure via the Embassy).

Information and procedures can also be found at the website of the Dutch Immigration Service (IND). This includes information and procedures related to  purposes of stay not listed below, such as employment, study, internship, adoption etc..  

Residence with spouse or registered partner:

  • Completed visa application form, duly signed by the applicant
  • Two (2) recent passport-size photographs (colour).
  • Passport, which must be valid for at least one (1) year
  • A photocopy of the passport of your spouse or registered partner (except blank pages)
  • Translated and legalised marriage certificate

Residence with partner:

  • Completed visa application form, duly signed by the applicant
  • Two (2) recent passport-size photographs (colour)
  • Passport, which must be valid for at least one (1) year.
  • A photocopy of your partners passport (except blank pages)
  • An original and a translated non-marriage certificate for yourself, legalised and dated no more than six (6) months previously

Residence of a child under 18 years of age with parent(s):                             

  • Completed visa application form, duly signed by the applicant.
  • Two (2) recent passport-size photographs (colour).
  • Passport, which must be valid for at least one (1) year.
  • Photocopies of both parents passports (except blank pages)
  • Original birth certificate, and a translated and legalised copy of the birth certificate
  • If one of the parents is remaining in the country of origin; a legalised declaration that parental responsibility is vested in the parent in the Netherlands, or a legalised declaration that the parent remaining in the country of origin has no objection
  • If one of the parents is remaining in the country of origin; a legalised declaration that parental responsibility is vested in the parent in the Netherlands, or a legalised declaration that the parent remaining in the country of origin has no objection
  • If the child is 15 years of age or older, a declaration of unmarried status (translated and legalised), dated no more than six (6) months previously, must be submitted
  • If the child is 15 years of age or older, a declaration signed by the child must be submitted stating that the child is not responsible for the care of any children of its own
  • Translated and legalised family record book (Thai house registration)

Please note that the fee for legalisation of documents is Euro 26.25 (per document)
