VISA - INTRODUCTION

A visa may be granted for a maximum of 90 days within a period of six months. The processing time is around 7 working days from the day of application. In some cases the applications may be sent to the Swedish Migration Board for decision. In such cases the processing time will be longer.

If the visit is intended to be for a longer period than 90 days, an application for residence permit for visit should be submitted.

The Embassy requires a duly completed application form together with complete documentation for the type of visa applied for. All documents have to be written in English or Swedish. Thai documentation shall be accompanied by a translation from an authorized translation bureau. Failure to produce the documentation may result in a refusal.

The applicant is required to appear in person at the Embassy at the time of appointment. Failure to appear means that the applicant has to make a new appointment.

A medical insurance is compulsory for visitors to Sweden and other Schengen states. You may provide either a policy from an insurance company based in Europe or in Thailand. Please note that only certain insurance companies in Thailand are accepted. See related files The insurance must cover at least 30 000 Euro or 1 500 000 Baht and include costs for medical treatment, hospitalization and repatriation due to injury or medical reasons. The insurance must be vaild in all Schengen states and cover the total length of the visit.

The reimbursement from the insurance company must be payable in any EU-country, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. The insurance certificate must be shown when the application is submitted. Please notice that you have to bring your travel insurance with you when travelling due to checks at the border control while entering Schengen.

The visa fee is 60 Euro. The fee is paid in Bath and is updated according to changes in the exchange rate. The fee is not refunded if the application is rejected.

The Embassy advises you not to pay hotel accommodation or flight tickets before you are granted a visa.
